Chaitanya Vuppanapalli is a Postdoctoral Associate at the MIT Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research (CEEPR). His research focuses on energy systems modeling, electricity infrastructure, and the economics of decarbonization. At CEEPR, his research examines long-term electricity system planning, transmission infrastructure, and the role of grid-enhancing technologies in supporting a reliable and cost-effective energy transition. His work combines large-scale mathematical optimization, capacity expansion modeling, and techno-economic analysis to evaluate energy infrastructure and decarbonization strategies.

Before joining CEEPR, Chaitanya was a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at New York University, where his research focused on energy systems modeling and the decarbonization of the chemical and industrial sectors. He contributed to open-source energy system modeling frameworks for capacity expansion and sector-coupled energy systems and worked on the integration of electricity, fuels, and industrial demand under alternative technology and policy scenarios. He received his Ph.D. and B.Tech. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where his research focused on process optimization, process electrification, energy storage, and work–heat integration.
