Position description:

MIT CEEPR seeks applications for a motivated postdoctoral associate to work on quantitative analysis projects related to the energy transition. They will work with CEEPR Faculty Director Christopher Knittel and project Co-PI Juan Senga. The projects will utilize GenX and/or MACRO, least-cost optimization models developed by MIT and Princeton that determines the portfolio of electricity generation, storage, transmission, and demand-side resource investments and operational decisions to meet electricity demand in one or more future planning years at lowest cost, while subject to a variety of power system operational constraints, resource availability limits, and other imposed environmental, market design, and policy constraints.

The postdoc will be involved in identifying and sourcing the input data for GenX, in designing experiments to be completed using GenX, and in coding and running GenX and interpreting and presenting the results.

Qualifications:

  • Recent PhD in Economics, Operations Management, or related field
  • Experience and competency in quantitative analysis
  • Experience in applied theoretical modeling a plus
  • Proficient at statistical software, e.g., STATA, R, Python
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal), Strong organizational, time management and problem-solving skills, while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must be highly goal-driven and exhibit the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels of the organization

This position is Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate is expected to relocate. The review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Pay range minimum: $71,000

Pay range maximum: $90,000
