Antonio F. RodrÃguez-Matas is a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Research in Technology (IIT) at Comillas Pontifical University and a Research Affiliate at MIT CEEPR. He also serves as Senior Scientific Advisor at the Office of the Prime Minister of Spain. His previous experience includes work with the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, as well as positions in the private sector in economic research and energy planning.
He has held visiting research positions at the Joint Global Change Research Institute (JGCRI), a partnership between Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) and the University of Maryland, and at Tufts University. His research focuses on the design of long-term decarbonization strategies at the intersection of energy systems modeling and climate policy. He studies how energy systems can be transformed under conditions of deep uncertainty, with particular interests in robust decision-support methods, industrial and transport decarbonization, clean energy technologies and fuels, and the distributional dimensions of the transition, including energy and transport poverty. He is the developer of openMASTER, an open-source model for long-term energy planning, and has advised public and private institutions across Spain and Europe.
