CEEPR Recognized Among World's Top Energy Policy Think Tanks

on Monday May 4, 2015

For the third year in a row, CEEPR has placed among the top 10 "Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks” in the annual “Global Go To Think Tank Index Report” published by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) at the University of Pennsylvania. The ranking is based on a nomination and voting process involving over 20.000 individuals and institutions from over 200 countries, who evaluated 6.600 think tanks on the quality of their research and their impact on public policy.

“We are delighted that CEEPR has once again been recognized for its groundbreaking research. Being ranked among the ten best energy and resource policy think tanks around the world affirms the important role CEEPR continues to play in better understanding and shaping energy policies”, said Michael Mehling, CEEPR’s Executive Director. “It also encourages us to intensify our efforts at a time when the global energy system is undergoing far-reaching transformation. Arguably the need for reliable and objective analysis has never been greater."

The Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania conducts research on the role policy institutes play in governments and civil societies around the world. Since 2007, it has published a global index of think tanks, the most comprehensive think tank ranking designed to identify and recognize centers of excellence in all the major areas of public policy research and in every region of the world.

“In a world filled with tweets and sound bites that are often superficial and politically charged,” said Dr. James McGann, director of the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program, “it is critical to know where to turn for sound policy proposals that address our complex policy issues. This independent Index is designed to help identify and recognize the leading centers of excellence in public policy research around the world.”

The 2014 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report was launched on 22 January 2015. Simultaneous launch events were held by 81 organizations in 62 cities in 51 countries, and it will be translated into over 20 languages. The copy of record, dated 4 February 2015, can be downloaded here.
